Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired two times late to take a shock lead. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the final moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
